My brother is a lead salesperson for a multi-million dollar company here in the US. He's been on, at least, a dozen video calls with web development companies that are headquartered in cities such as Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, etc. His company is looking for developers to work on a huge project that would require a team.
One of the questions that they posed during interviews is where their development team members reside. Every single company responded that their members live abroad in such places like India, Russia, etc. They, also, stated that they are unable to find programmers/developers in the US.
My brother believes that there is an enormous amount of money to be made in projects such as this. He just doesn't understand why they can't be found. He has convinced his daughter to get a computer science degree because of situations such as this.
Does anyone here understand what's going on?
EDIT: I had my brother look at this post so far and he agreed to share a little more info that he sent me through Signal. This is for discussion purposes only.
All of these points are correct. And another aspect is: Even though you have an outsource team overseas, English speaking customers, US based businesses, desperately need the Project Manager level developers to Lead the Teams. That's the key point.
And to be more specific about the project: $1M+ price tag, will take up to one year, and involves heavy web e-commerce and image rendering. Very ambitious project. Will take a team of 10-20 and long term dev contracts.
We don't care if the entire team is in Ukraine. But we have to have the lead architects and product development managers state side.
This is what they are struggling to employ on US soil. In high demand.
