has anyone else listened to I Am Easy To Find by The National? i've only listened to it twice but i'm absolutely enthralled, it feels like such an exciting addition to their discography. i love the way the guest vocals are utilized -- i think the AV club put it best in their review:
Sometimes they spar with Berninger, sometimes they haunt him, and sometimes, as on “Not In Kansas,” they throw him a life raft. Because just when it seems as if he’ll drown in his wandering observations—unstuck in time, references to The Godfather, R.E.M., and Annette Bening unspool against a spare, roundabout guitar line—a chorus of voices descends like angels from a UFO.
but above all it just sounds fantastic. the pianos, the strings, the drum machines, the synths, become more than the sum of their parts, sort of thrust into alliance by Berninger's lyrics. maybe i'm just partial to this album (and this band in general i guess) because i'm also a sad sack of shit, but i'm really enjoying it.
