Thank you. That helps. I read through it, but it was a bit confusing, so I asked Tildes.

I was browsing r/privacy today and I came across this guy going on about how Mozilla was just pretending to be privacy focused. Here's his comment. Now I don't really know what to think of this, and frankly, I'm getting really exhausted of hearing about how all the things I'm using aren't actually trustworthy. So can so someone put my mind to rest? Does this guy's claims have any truth to them? Thanks.

He is very smart. Yes, and often times he is correct and has a good argument, but that's not really my problem with him. I'm not pretending like it doesn't sting a little when I'm wrong (I'm only human after all,) but that's not what irritates me. It's one thing to be right, it's another thing to be patronizing when you're explaining how you are. This feels a little rude to be talking about him here.

I find it much easier to have a discussion with someone when they don't try to belittle and actually show the bare minimum level of respect that should be in a conversation.

Problem is, sometimes blocking isn't to prevent abuse, sometimes it's just a certain user who isn't technically violating any rules but you just don't want to deal with them.

I think post votes definitely deserve a place here, but comment votes are just being used like agree buttons, just like on Reddit. I've seen it a lot. People aren't basing their vote off of how well the comment contributes to the conversation, they're using it to upvote things they agree with and abstaining on things they don't.

The phrase "people of colour" didn't create the "us versus them" mentality: that has been in place for centuries, possibly millennia.

Totally. It did not created that mentality, but as I've mentioned before, I feel like it isn't helping. It's driving the wedge deeper. Umbrella terms are weird and usually aren't needed. I think it's usually good to adjust your speech depending on the person, otherwise you just get this big weird blob of a word that encompasses to many people too make sense anymore, and makes it impersonal and cold.

To your original question about if language drives a wedge between us—well, maybe. It's describing rifts that are unfortunately already there but I think it can work the other way too.

Totally. I feel like using terms like POC aren't doing people any favors. It isn't the root of the problem, but it isn't making it any better. It's driving a wedge between us. Instead of seeing everyone as human, there are white people, and then everyone else. It just seems so backwards and weird.

Yeah. That's kind of what I'm saying. It seems weird to lump all non-whites into this one big "people of color" group. It seems like POC is being used as like...a race of its own, maybe.

I was just thinking about this. It has no basis in evidence or anything, it just popped into my head. Could using terms like POC that are catch-alls for all non-white races cause a rift between white people and POC? I feel like it has the potential to create a kind of "us VS. them" mentality if it hasn't already. Because it's saying you have all the races in the world, and then you have white people. I don't really have an alternative or a solution. It was just an observation I made. Of course, me being white myself, maybe there's just something I'm not understanding. I think it could spark an interesting discussion because people are bound to have many different opinions on this subject.

So, votes are supposed to be used on quality content and comments that contribute to the conversation, right? I think the problem with this is, most of the content on Tildes is to that standard, and if it isn't, we can just tag/report it. Voting feels redundant to me. What does everyone else think?

I learning how to create Doom WADs for a project I'm doing with my brother. I'm going to have it set in Roswell, New Mexico in the 50's. You're going to be a grey alien who crash lands on Earth. Upon leaving the wreckage of your ship, you get attacked by government agents, so you go on a murder spree in Roswell, or something like that. My brother's making some custom assets and is weapon spriting currently.
