A lot of artists who take commissions advertise on twitter. If you find someone you like you can usually reach out via DMs and ask if they're taking commissions and what their rates are. If your husband has a favorite artist, you can try reaching out to them directly. Have you checked his social media to see if there are any artists or styles he particularly likes?

But yeah, I haven't tried hiring any artists since assholes started flooding the various platforms with AI generated crap, but I would try verifying that the artist you're attempting to hire has been around for at least a few years.

Groups like this always seem to use the same language and the same euphemisms and dog whistles. It makes them easy to spot, but honestly it's pretty tiring

Been reading a lot of indie TTRPGs partly for fun, partly to widen my knowledge base and partly as research for the board game store I'm opening.

Business Wizards is a rules light RPG about wizarding in a corporate hellscape. It's tongue in cheek and really cathartic for anyone who works for a soulless corporation. I had a chance to play with the Devs a year or so ago and we played the actual game via an online PowerPoint-style presentation. It's absolutely hilarious and I'm prepping to run it for a group of friends

Thirsty Sword Lesbians the name says it all, it's a medium weight explicitly LGBT-inclusive, explicitly anti-fascist RPG about lesbians with swords fighting against tyrany and their own personal baggage. The book even opens with a bunch of safety tools to make sure that everyone is comfortable around the table, which can be a big issue with TTRPGs. I haven't played it but I really want to.

Finally Monster Care Squad is a game where you play as elite fantasy veterinarians trying to help monsters and magical creatures who are in distress. It explicitly doesn't have rules for intentionally cause harm to anyone else and seems like a really cool way of approaching conflict resolution. It really feels like it has abolitionist and restorative justice undertones instead of the traditional stab-bad-guy-with-a-pointy-stick method that is common in many other games. I'll probably cue up a game of this next once I've run Business Wizards

Watched Spy x Family over on Crunchyroll and oh my god, it's one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. The basic premise is that it's the cold war in an alternate world and the top spy needs a cover family for his latest mission. From there, things spin out of control, but I'm not going to spoil anything.

There are some shows that take some getting into and only get good around season 2 or 3. This is not one of those shows, it's fucking amazing from the start. There are only 2 episodes so far and I can't think of a show I've seen ever that has had a stronger opening. If the rest of it is as good as what I've seen so far, people are going to be talking about this show in 20 years

I definitely ran into an issue like that in single player. I did a quest and it brought me to a crashed ship in need of repair, so I built a base and when I teleported away and back again it was gone.

And another time I did a whole quest solo and it wanted me to go back to the anomaly to cash it in, but I tried teleporting to another base and accidentally cancelled the already completed quest because suddenly there was a pop-up in the middle of my screen.

They really need to hire someone to do UX. It feels like every time I feel like I'm getting into a groove something comes along and just punches me in the face. Just deeply frustrating

At the point I was at, I was having more trouble with all the different items that each needed a dedicated slot than with filling any of them up, but that's good to know.

Thanks, right now I'm working on a hybrid support mechanist build, but I'm having trouble figuring out how much healing/barrier I'm actually doing and how effective it is. Arcdps shows me damage numbers but nothing about healing. And raw metrics aside, I don't know what is or isn't helpful and how much of an impact I'm making. All my healing is AoE and I can sustain moderate area damage in the special forces training area basically indefinitely, but that's basically the only way I've figured out to test it and I have no frame of reference for if that's a reasonable amount.

My DPS build is much more straightforward to understand since it only really has 1 job and I can easily see how it's performing.

So I would appreciate any advice you have.

I heard No Man's Sky had gotten a lot better that it was at launch, so I picked it up during a 50% off sale. I've made it far enough in that the game has started to open up, but it just feels grindy and tedious. Item management is a pain in the ass for no good reason and unlocking more storage is actually pretty difficult. It feels like they had a few decent ideas but had no idea how to execute on them in a way that wasn't deeply frustrating. I might give it another hour or 2, but I'm pretty close to giving up and calling it quits for good

Beyond that I'm continuing to play more Guild Wars 2 and am learning more and getting better. I'm getting more skilled with higher level content and it feels good. And slowly my builds are getting better too. The high level meta seems self reinforcing when it really doesn't need to be, and I personally find that frustrating, but I'm not sure what can be done about that

I don't think many people would use that option, but I think a few might and I'm sure they would really appreciate it.

And yeah, starting a new game is an option, but like you said it can be a pretty high cost in terms of time commitment.

Been playing more Guild Wars 2. I really like it and I think I might try to be more methodical in my approach to working on gear and achievements. I usually just fuck around with whatever I'm in the mood for, but trying to maintain multiple high end loadouts takes some effort. But having a guild to play with is a lot of fun and is really opening up the end game content

Also gave some of the Zachtronics games a try: Shenzhen I/O, Exapunks and Opus Magnum. They're all puzzle games based around I-can't-believe-it's-not assembly language for the first 2 and process control logic for OM. They're a lot more fun than I was expecting, and I feel like I got to use skills I haven't touched since college. But they're also dangerous. I definitely stayed up til like 4 am because I got pulled into Shenzhen I/O

    Edit:
I completely forgot The Planet Crafter just entered EA on steam. It's pretty fun, though definitely still a work in progress. So far you get dropped on an alien planet and have to explore, build shelter, and slowly terraform it to be livable. The building system feels very Subnautica inspired but they added a tech progression system that limits your building based on how much you've terraformed the planet in various respects. And once you get far enough along, the planet responds, I went from barren rock and ice to liquid water to plants growing in areas I never put down seeds. I'm really excited to see where they go from here. I think they said they're expecting the 1.0 release in a year or 2 and the list of features they're including has me excited already.

Continuing to play more Guild Wars 2, in the past I've mostly been playing solo, but I've been having a great time since joining a new guild. I've tried to get real life friends to play, with limited success, but finding nice people who already play and making friends with them is much more effective. I for one am shocked that engaging with the 'guild' part of 'Guild Wars' would have positive results. No one could have seen that coming.

I've also been playing Timberborn which is a relatively standard city builder, but you play as a civilization of sentient beavers. The tech tree is pretty simple, but the difficulty comes in managing water. Water irrigates land and makes it so you can grow crops and obviously your beavers also need to drink it to survive. So the maps have large rivers cutting through them which you can build your settlement along. But every year there is a drought where the river dries up. And each year they last longer and you have more beavers you need to take care of, so you have to take perpetually more extreme measures to keep your people alive.

The tutorial shows you how to store water between seasons in water barrels, but for some reason it doesn't tell you that you can just dam the river and ride out the drought with a huge reservoir of water. And if you do it right you don't even have to stop growing crops. Discovering that was game changing and I wish the tutorial had mentioned it and explained the actual mechanics of the droughts and how to dam rivers. I thought it got hot and all the water dried up, but what actually happens is that the river's source stops producing water so all the water flows downhill until it finally goes off screen. If you interrupt the flow you can hold onto a bunch of it and droughts become MUCH more manageable. Again, no one could have predicted that the key strat for a game about beavers would involve damming rivers.
