What anime music do you listen to regularly?
I love listening to Boku No Hero Academia's soundtrack when I am trying to get work done. The Villain's Theme is particularly exciting, despite the menacing vibe.

The Pillows from FLCL fame, Nujabes (both the samurai champloo OST and his other work) and l'Arc-en-Ciel for nostalgia reasons.
Such a bummer that nujabes is gone. Definitely one of my favorite styles.
Edit: also, holy smokes, The Pillows! Pantomime Life is awesome. Dang that takes me back.
Sometimes people will post some similar sounds to /r/listentothis, that's how I discovered Kenichiro Nishihara, which is not exactly Nujabes but it's way closer then most lo-fi hip hop IMO.
Just finished Devilman Crybaby yesterday. Amazing soundtrack.

Sometimes I go back and listen to the rapanese segments, they're so good.
Kill la Kill soundtrack has got to be hands down one of the best I've heard. And it might be more anime inspired than anime, but I think the RWBY soundtrack deserves a mention here too.
Haven't seen Kill la Kill, but I love the RWBY soundtrack too. Which reminds me, I haven't seen the last season yet, and I should probably catch up.
You're in for a treat, it was a solid improvement on season 4. Also season 6 should be dropping before too awful long.
I am clearing some time next weekend so I can binge it one go. RWBY seasons are long enough to leave you content, but short enough that you crave more and have the time to theorize/discuss all within one day.
I'm not big into anime, but I wouldn't be a Jazz fan if Cowboy Bebop hadn't come along and The Seatbelts hadn't kicked my ass. I still listen to that music semi-regularly, made a 2CD mixtape of my favorites from the series.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood has amazing OP and ED songs with fantastic energy. Sample YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0_EkYWJGEw
The original had some pretty amazing music too. The fourth opening was my favourite, it's called Rewrite. The first ending song is pretty awesome too, but it's probably because I'm super nostalgic about it.
Re-listening to it made me realize how much I had liked the OP when I first heard it. The ED is great too. I wonder how I forgot about them.
Definitely not typical 'anime music', but the one that springs to mind immediately is Bartender. In the past year or two I've spent more and more time with music that has no/minimal lyrics because I find I can concentrate on my work better while still getting 'in' to it.
There are plenty of other anime and game soundtracks in my library that fulfill essentially the same purpose (I keep all of my players on shuffle unless I want to listen to something specific), but that's definitely one of the albums that will go on a new device before anything else.
EDIT: YouTube playlist for the curious
Definitely saving the playlist. If I ever get tired BNHA's OST, then I'll come to this.
I'm glad you like it! Sadly the physical album is hella hard to come by, and used copies go for like $250. :(
Fuck that's a lot of money, even more for used copies. Do you collect physical copies?
I don't collect them, but for albums I really like I try to buy a copy, leaving me with about 10 CDs in my bookshelf. It's not like the version on my computer sounds less good, but it's nicer to feel like you actually 'own' it. I recently bought the Phoenix Wright Jazz/Orchestral double CD for the same reason.
I know how you feel. I have a few vinyls myself. I don't listen to them but they look great on my shelf.
The soundtracks for the Persona games are always amazing. 4 is probably my favorite of the list.
As for actual anime, I love Kill la Kill's soundtrack the most of any, with the exception, perhaps, of Cowboy Bebop
The P4 OST is my jam!
The music from Noir has always stood out to me. The Akira movie also has a really good soundtrack.
I have a soft spot for the Sakura Taisen series (okay, more game than anime, shrug). The setting is early 1900s Japan in an imperial opera house, with female cast playing both male and female characters in musical plays. The soundtrack ranges from classic musical/opera style to semi-modern JPop. A lot of brass and strings in many of the pieces.
BGM from the first game gives you a feel for the setting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJGgMS2pnaU
Original Sega Saturn game opening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=La5SvNbViKE
Sakura's theme, gentle and sweet, I fell in love when I first heard it when I was much younger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9QnhKq3Oi0
The series comprises over a hundred vocal songs. There are drama CDs and some anime series to supplement the games.
This is completely different from what I usually listen to. How did you get into this, if I may ask? It seems a little obscure to me.
I've been into anime for a long time. :) Probably in the late 90s I was looking for anime wallpapers and there was an anime wallpaper website advertising all 8 anime series known to westerners back then. One of those was Sakura Taisen. They had uploaded some short anime clips taken from the game. So I got into it out of curiosity, not even having played any of the games. The unique setting is what drew me in. It has a nostalgic feel.
In Japan, Sakura Taisen is one of the most well known and beloved game franchises. It is still obscure outside Japan; only Sakura Taisen 5 was released in the west.
You're definitely right about the setting, I just checked it out. Looks like a classic, I am going to play it.
Most westerners don't know that the developer, Red Entertainment, is more than a game developer. They branch out into other medias as well, which is part of why their games were so big in Japan. Gungrave is the most obvious example; it wasn't just a video game, it was also a manga and an anime series. If you go back through their history, you can see that they generally design their games around characters, and those characters are designed to be appealing to a wide audience.
One Punch Man, Parasyte, and Madoka Magica are the ones I listen to the most, with selected tracks from others sprinkled in.
The anime itself didn't do much for me, but the Bamboo Blade soundtrack has some pretty neat stuff on it.
I also really, really like the soundtrack CD from the Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei series.
Edit: Also, many of the K-On songs, and Angela's ED from Seitokai Yakuindomo.
Magical is the right word. I might just listen to this when I go stargazing.
Cowboy Bebop
My Hero Academia
Steins; Gate
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Kill La Kill
Mob Psycho 100
Another BNHA fan! What parts of the soundtrack stood out to you?
Lupin The Third Part IV and V OP and ED. Really stellar.
I'm a huge fan of all the works "Anime That Jazz" does on youtube and the various offshoots of jazz mixes of Miyazaki soundtracks.
Examples:
Anime that Jazz
All that Jazz - Ghibli Jazz
For me, It's Yoko Kanno (Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Arjuna, Macross Plus), Trigun, Hellsing (OVA, Not Ultimate), Serial Experiments Lain, and Boogiepop Phantom.
Made in Abyss is definitely my favorite soundtrack
