This is definitely a tricky situation that deserves careful consideration by everyone involved. I'm still researching claims and testimonials from both sides. It's disheartening, however, to see so many people making assumptions and taking sides fueled solely by emotion on social media.
The social media hivemind these days loves sensationalism and will jump at any opportunity to be able to be on a side, regardless of the validity of their chosen side's claims. It makes it extremely difficult to just exist/have a presence online, because if you ever say something accidentally or say something someone takes exception to, they can just go on Twitter and hand out pitchforks in your name. That, however, doesn't mean that I'm picking a side on this conflict specifically, as I haven't done research, but the attitude is prevalent wherever you go
The problem with human nature, as exemplified by and concentrated via social media, in a nutshell. Although I would argue that given the amount of seemingly credible allegations that have come out against him so far (going back as far as 2010 apparently), that at the very least, Funimation and Rooster Teeth's responses are probably more than justified at this point.
Yeah, my wife and I had been doing the con scene since the early 2010s and it always felt like a running gag to watch out for Vic Mignongna for being a creep. Just interesting that Funimation has actually done something about it.
I don't have a side in this conflict; I've never interacted with him or even seen his work as I'm not really into dubbed anime, but I remember when he was cast as Edward in Fullmetal Alchemist and attended cons after the dub released, and yeah, there were definitely complaints online about his behaviour at them. Not quite sexual harrassment levels, but a few people saying he'd been a jerk or a creep. These allegations being true would really not surprise me at all.
I've seen so many personal testimonials against him not just by voice actors/actresses who've seen or experienced his behavior, but he is very notorious at cons for the same thing. His actions were a bit of an open secret at the con I went to. Kind of one of those things everyone knew about, but it got ignored / swept under the rug for whatever reason.
This is unfortunate. Personally, I really like Vic Mignogna's work and he's added a lot to series with his performances. However, a good performance does not a good person make, and I think it's unlikely that there's been some nearly-decade-long campaign to get a perfectly good voice actor booted from the industry for no reason.
