I'm a fan of the show and have read and watched similar articles in the past. In the end, I found the shows' symbolism is not consistent enough to make this kind of analysis worthwhile. Many people believe Evangelion is unique because of its themes, but I don't think that's entirely true. Little has been said about its formal aspects: art, music, direction, editing, etc. I started writing this analysis myself, but I got lost in the process. Unsurprisingly, making a formal analysis is way more tiresome than putting together a bunch of interesting references.
