I know that era wasn’t perfect and the glasses are a little rose-tinted, but something’s definitely been lost along the way and this captured it in a perfectly irreverent way. As a small example when the gaming laptop is taken away for gaming at work the the boss plushie reminds the pov character that they need to feed their family and they start working(also seen through the lens of gaming) for a pathetic paycheck creating identical plushies to the angry boss. UI elements indicating low health, the stealth failure alarm from deus ex ringing. Then when they get home their family is a body pillow. IDK exactly what it means but I don't think it was chosen haphazardly.
This album is also worth listening to if you are are terminally online and a fan of unique glitch pop. (although much darker thematically) I just found it recently so I haven't had much time to...
