    Significant enough cultural influence that as a 30 something Dutchman I've seen Pippi "Langkous" on tv as a child. I'm sure this is common in Northern/Northwestern Europe.

        I remember a lot of fishing being involved, which made more sense for Sweden. That, and I know I looked her up in my parents' hand-me-down World Book '64 edition, so I never had time to speculate....
