What does immersing yourself in a book do to your brain?

    The topic of empathy and reading is one that feels conceptually right to me, even if the science (or at least what has been presented in this article) is only in its formative years.

    It seems obvious that empathizing with a character can improve our empathy and that it's important to read other perspectives, but it's an issue I doubt we can quantify anytime soon.

    And through empathic reading, we can find our core beliefs challenged and sometimes altered. Of course every despot knows this and hence censorship. And I might add, required reading.
