There's a lot those stories teach just by being told, they don't need a close reading - which is part of what Hellsing means by good art being pedagogical.

I'm only slightly aware of Pippi Longstocking but after reading this I think I'll add some to my to-read list.

The Moomins were a big part of my childhood reading. I must have read each book at least ten times. I'm pretty sure that without those books I'd not have read a quarter as much as I have over the years. I have been thoroughly disappointed by the TV attempts though.

I remember my sister was a big Pippi Longstocking fan, but it wasn't really for me.

I remember my mom reading Pippi Longstocking to me when I was young. To us kids it was pure comedy gold.

Oh man, I love the Moomins. Both them and Pippi Longstocking were some of my all-time favorite childhood stories.
