Type The Tao Te Ching is a cool tool for practicing typing in a simple but effective way. In a week or two I'll have a new ortholinear keyboard to type on, and plan on learning Colemak with it, so this is a great tool to measure my staggered QWERTY typing speed against my ortholinear Colemak speed.

If you would prefer similar functionality, but still be able to stay inside the terminal, the author has a separate command line program as well:

    Happy typing!

The only caveat is that there's not much of the numeral or special character practice a standard typing tutorial might include, but it's nifty anyway.
