    Another one to look out for is bWidgets. It's a project to separate Blender's UI into a new standalone UI library. It's not a game engine, but Blender's UI was always really innovative. Even dating back to it's first version. snip

    I think one of the main reasons the web has been consistently used to make apps is control. With a webapp you typically update it once and that gets pushed to all users whether they want to or not. By its nature you are also getting a bunch of data about usage patterns that can be helpfu when improving the product (and can potentially be monetized). Building a desktop app you loose some of that...
    If we start to see more use of web assembly we could potentially get around that.
