You can make handmade holograms just by etching lines into a shiny surface. All you need is a compass with two points (a divider). And to be able to get your head around the mind bending geometry.

Steve Mould has a knack of choosing such interesting and unusual subjects (with some technical/engineering depth to them). I love his channel and I don't think I've ever seen a bad video there. I realise this just means we have some kind of alignment of interests but I haven't come across any other channels like that. I suppose Veritasium is similar but those videos feel a bit more hit and miss to me.

Tom Scott is the only other YouTuber I can think of whose videos have all been as consistently interesting as Steve Mould's. Everyone else, even the other channels I love (like Practical/Real Engineering, Tasting History, Calum, etc.), have had the occasional dud, but not those two.

Mark Rober - I've still enjoyed each project he does, though some people don't like his porch pirate videos. There are many other great project though!

Mike Boyd - one of my current favourites, I like to try to approach a lot of things with a "this is Day 1, Hour 0" mentality.

Simon Lizotte - this one is highly specific to disc golf, so if that's not your jam he puts out 0% interesting videos, but if you do like disc golf, Simon is delightful.

I generally like Mark Rober's videos too, but I can't help but feel that his porch pirate videos are cruel, and compassionless. And after seeing how violently Macaulay Culkin reacted to being exposed to the stink spray, I also can't help but worry that Mark is risking causing genuine harm to people by spraying that shit at them... especially if they're driving, and/or if they have asthma, or an allergic reaction to it. All it takes is one person having a bad reaction to the spray at the wrong moment, and suddenly it goes from "harmless prank" to involuntary manslaughter.

Regardless, he has said that he won't be doing any more. I've also clarified my earlier sentence, which sort of read like I only enjoyed his porch pirate videos or that he was a porch pirate channel; that's definitely a small subsection of what he's about.

Tom Scott, Steve Mould, and NileRed are all up there for me in terms of consistently interesting videos.

Standup Maths scratches a similar itch for me. More abstract, but still very interesting and at about the same complexity level.

I want to mention another maths channel I follow (that I forgot about when you posted) and that's Mathlologer.
