What is the most creative app or website you know of?

HELLO TILDES USERS. IT IS I, FELLOW HUMAN, BISHOP.

As you may have read in an earlier post of mine (ok probably not it was a one-off comment, not like I reinforced the thought anywhere.)

I do indeed hold the belief that code can be, itself, art, in the right context.

Or, rather, that code can be used for artistic purposes.

I dunno.

That's why I'm posting.

What would you say is the most artistic or, at least, creatively designed website or mobile app that you've seen?

I've got some creativity a-stewin' away in my head, and I need a new excuse to kill some time on frontend.

So, fellow humans, hit me with your best shot duh-nuh-nuh-nuh fire away.

What ya got?

(@mods fix my tags please. Not sure what to put, but you might have a good idea. Ya boy's had a few.)

I love a lot of the pages in the tildeverse: think tilde.town, etc. They're homemade and really pretty wonderful.

Not so much a particular website or particular piece of code, but IMO a lot of news sites are really upping their layout game with certain articles these days in a way that I find incredibly visually interesting and creative. E.g.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-sh/Looking_for_Chinas_spies
(sorry, not the lightest of subjects, but these were the first that came to mind since I read them both recently)

some websites period just have very visually interesting layouts as a matter of branding. undark is a pretty good example of this in one direction: it's a very striking, sleek website that's pretty responsive and pretty straightforward, because that's the sort of website that undark is and that's the sort of reporting that they do. the outline on the other hand takes this in the opposite direction: the fonts are all over the place, the color palette is wacky and wild, and the design in general is reminiscent of the experimentation of early-2000s geocities users, but that's also kinda what they're going for because a lot of their articles are non-conventional, very online, or very artistic in nature.

Homestar Runner is an example, though I know there were many more elaborate sites in Flash's heyday.

I have always been a fan of games in browsers, specifically stuff that was has a local client. Minecraft released the one of the original builds of their game for free at classic.minecraft.net, and if we want to mess around, you can make seeds like https://classic.minecraft.net/?join=OZgz-KDFidBN1XAA and up to 10 people can join a room at a time.

EDIT: Seed went bad, go to classic.minecraft.net and post a seed only if you stay in the room. Otherwise, it withers.

An app I really like the UI on is Buddify. It’s really unique layout. It doesn’t necessarily add a ton, but it’s different, refreshing, and the content is A+. Never thought I’d spend 4.99 on an app but here I am

I did a quick search for Buddify and didn't find anything. Did you mean Buddhify? Super curious.

The artist formerly alive as Prince had some pretty creative, if not entirely practical websites. They tended to come and go with his whims, as did a lot of his other projects, but after his passing a fan maintained website called the Prince Online Museum was opened. It hosts copies of Prince's old websites and functions as a pretty lovely collection of both Prince's legacy and the history of the world wide web as it developed between 1995 and 2013.

I had to catch myself before cognitive dissonance caused me to respond to a completely different question!
I see a lot of very creative, technologically advanced web-sites these days.
Apps I cannot offer an informed (or valuable) opinion about because of my views & usage of my mobile phone (which are even more drastically against the grain of today's world! LOL).
I will add that while I see a great deal of impressive creativity and technological accomplishment on a large number of web-sites, please do not equate that with (my opinion of) value/worth or usefulness - let's just call that "quality" as the term once applied to individuals. Meaning "what" a person did (their profession or skill), how good they were at it, how reliable their work, and what value/benefit all that could bring to you - that was said to be the "quality" of the person.
And that said, I find very little "quality" in the vast majority of web-sites these days and use it less and less even though I am a 35-year professional software engineer who (despite being a dinosaur) is still very active in the field and very much up-to date on the technologies being introduced. And that, obviously, colors my view of this topic in a way that I would call increasingly jaded (to be kind to myself).

I would like to see another thread with your question phrased more along the lines of what sites/apps do folks know of that actually provide a tangible benefit to them in a manner that doesn't entirely negate it's benefit. If that makes any kind of sense.

THANK YOU for this thread Bishop - You've reminded me that I should visit Tildes more often, and for today you've given me that 1 thought-provoking and intelligent thing on the internet that helps me keep some hope alive that perhaps one day this technology will become civilized and less terrifying.

PS: Pardon all the edits, my last few firing neurons keep telling me it looks fine when proofreading, but they're about to shutdown I suspect!

I used to use the id d.null (my first name being David) because I have a neurological issue that effs with my short-term memory - so when things get said to me, often, they right into /dev/null ne'er to be recalled!

PS: Bash is great, in the way-way-back before bash I was an outcast for loving the ksh (korn? korne?). Which I think Bash borrowed some nice stuff from.

That's an underwhelming answer, but I don't care much about originality when it comes to website presentation, app layouts or advanced interactivity. I love the philosophy behind Tildes and other simple, easily parsable websites like El País that don't bother me with fluff (too much Javascript also tends to break Vimium). I even disable overlays on Wikipedia, but I love a good outline (this layout, like a side bar, is quite handy). Text and static images are good enough for me, like a nice magazine. But I do enjoy fluff in movie titles, video game UIs, comic books, RPG books, etc.
