I remember being out in a planting camp when this happened. Some of my friends were studying his form to learn the secrets of how he did it. I would never plant like this because it involves compromising your posture and not walking around upright, but it definitely made a splash around the community. An incredible feat, no matter how you look at it - I always considered 1000 trees per hour to be an upper bound before this point. I guess having a pit crew would help with that a bit.

I'm long retired from planting, but am close to one of the people who was on his crew. His take was antoine didn't really do anything particularly different from anyone else (not like a short shovel and "bend once a bag up" philosophy is rare), just was incredibly efficient/speedy with his motions and land management.

This record was set a few years ago now (2022), but I felt inspired to post it in light of the old ressurected thread about Beau Miles planting a mini forest in 24 h. I couldn't find a prior topic, and thought the people of Tildes would be interested!

Antoine Moses, from Gaspé, says he can plant on average 16 trees per minute — about one tree every 3.75 seconds.

After 14 hours and 51 minutes of straight planting on the record-breaking day last summer, Moses had surpassed the old record of 15,170 trees held by Kenny Chaplin, set in 2001.

(Aside: Kenny didn't attempt a full 24 hours, just during one daytime period, hence the huge jump)

Moses says it was a collaborative effort, with the help of a six-person pit crew, planting the equivalent of what a half-dozen individual tree planters would do in a day’s work.

(Another aside: the 'pit crew' helped by providing food/water/lighting overnight, monitoring quality, and placing boxes of trees where needed. They didn't help bag up or plant/fix any of the trees in any way)

This sparked my curiosity and I wanted to know what had happened with the trees from 2022. Lucky timing all around because he just posted a video update on that mini forest. How incredibly...
