    The comparisons between the "Green New Deal" and the New Deal are obvious but this article makes the point that a better comparison in the American context may be to the Second World War. In that time American society faced a perceived existential threat and mobilized all aspects of society to take it on. The fight against climate change can seem hopeless but it's important to remember what we're capable of and that a challenge on the scale of the Green New Deal is not unprecedented.

    (One quibble I have with the article is the appeal to anti-Chinese sentiment as a motivation, but I don't think that detracts from its main point.)
