    I'm amazed at how long Dorian just sat in essentially the same spot. That is horrifying to think how long you would end up just listen to the wind and water bash against your shelter.

    Just for reference, even mere 60 mph (100 kph) wind gusts mentioned in Palm Beach can topple mature trees, cause serious impact injuries from flying debris, bring down power lines, lift off roof shingles, push moving vehicles across lanes... That's before accounting for flooding damage.

    We were fortunate to have replaced our roof just before Irma hit, and learned that current Florida building standards require 100 mph wind resistance. That's still not going to stop a falling tree, or even a flying coconut.
