    While I agree with the premise of the article, in that many of the benefits of the military shouldn't be nearly exclusive to them, I would've liked to see the article attempt to answer what's supposed to fill the void that shrinking the military would cause. If the military is drastically scaled back, if we close our foreign bases, and if stop the funding that keeps the US military ahead of our enemies, what's going to restrain China and Russia from bullying their neighbors, to whom we've made commitments to protect? How do we stop the rest of NATO from losing faith in our ability to protect them, and prevent them from building up militaries themselves? Because if they militarize, the goal of reducing emissions is going to be completely shot, and if our lack of presence on the world stage leads to another bloody conflict (which has happened twice in our history so far, and both times were among the bloodiest conflicts ever fought in humanity's history), the risk of injury is going to skyrocket over its current rate.
