    I think one of the most important statements in this article was in the second to last paragraph

    The scientists say we can choose to accept wildfire as “as an inevitable catalyst of change,” and we can adapt. Here, in a nation that currently suppresses 95 percent of all wildfires, at great cost and with questionable efficacy, it might be best to focus more on guiding the way fire burns.

    iirc, part of the reason why we've had such devastating wildfires is because there is an overgrowth of flammable flora. By allowing natural wildfires to spread without harming property, the risk of large wildfires that will destroy property is decreased.

    This is not to say that there are human factors to blame for starting or worsening these fires, but rather that there are a multitude of variables we should be considering.
