    From reading the article, it appears that the company that will operate the mine has thoroughly considered how to do a very dirty job in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

    Also, electrification of vehicles is absolutely necessary to slow down climate change, for which we absolutely have to mine lithium, since demand will only accelerate, and recycling and reusing will only get us so far.

    The bottom line is that we need this as a country for several reasons, and as unpleasant as some aspects of it will be, we will likely benefit more than we will lose out.
