Who would want to take on that level of risk?

    They've done this to themselves.

They've lost the "Obama is going to sieze your guns" panic driven revenue stream, and I can't help feeling this is just another in a long line of very manipulative fund raisers.

Part of me wants to be cynical and say this is just NRA fear-mongering, designed to drum up additional donations from their supporters. The article does a good job outlining that this isn't just a money issue, it's a problem of other businesses (In this case, insurance and financial firms) simply view the NRA as too big of a risk to work with.

Either way, until they close their doors I'm not convinced that they're in dire straits.

Frankly, good. The NRA has become a bloated monster of its former self. I'm not against guns, I actually enjoy shooting them, but I am for more efficient regulation and stricter punishment for abuses of these weapons. The NRA has made it next to impossible for this to happen and have fostered a culture of fear and hatred around gun users that I find appalling.

It used to be about promoting safe gun usage. Now it's about manipulating gun owners to give them money out of fear.
