Sounds like this author has a case of brand fetishism. Ford isn't discontinuing the ICE Mustang, but people are getting really offended they would use that name on an electric car — as if somehow it taints the name and devalues existing Mustangs. I don't really get it. I'm not a car guy, but I don't think this is a car thing. It seems more like a tribalistic elitism thing where branding is more important than accepting a new car for what it is.

Thanks for the perspective. I'm still not sure I see the reason for all the outrage. At worst it's just tone-deaf marketing, trying to capture a segment using an established name and going about it all wrong. To me though, I don't care much one way or the other what things are named — a rose by any other name and all that. I can see if you're really invested in the mustang name, and are really proud about driving a mustang, and someone comes along driving a stupid-looking SUV and says "hey guys! I'm driving a mustang too!" could piss off people in the "mustang club", but honestly get over it. It's a name. For a car. I wish people could get over branding and elitist cliques for a moment and judge a car for its merits in a vacuum is all.
Ah ok, so this is where I might be misunderstanding things. Has Ford said they're going to cancel the internal combustion mustang line in favour of this "Mach-E" model? Doing a quick google search...
If AMD stopped selling eight core processors next year and only stuck to selling dual core processors
Ah ok, so this is where I might be misunderstanding things. Has Ford said they're going to cancel the internal combustion mustang line in favour of this "Mach-E" model? Doing a quick google search for "2021 Mustang GT" shows some really normal looking mustangs. If they're discontinuing their iconic muscle car in favour of this crossover thing, I can understand the hate a lot more. I haven't read anything suggesting that's the case though.
People are stupid. It's as simple as that. Even if the ICE Mustang was being discontinued, those people need to get with the times. In 40 years, ICE vehicles will probably be a thing with the...

I can't really discern a cohesive point from what the guy is saying to be honest. I guess he doesn't want an electric corvette for some reason?

So he's upset because Ford made a mustang body style that people wanted? And he doesn't want GM to make a Corvette body style that people want?
Huh?
