Why is it that every time I read one of these, they talk about having leaf lettuce at the table, but literally every Korean barbecue place I have ever been to has a salad instead? That includes both the ones that are clearly marketing to white people, the expensive genuine Korean ones, and the cheap "hole-in-the-wall" restaurants. Heck, that also includes the time I went to a Japanese-style one (though I guess at that point it's a yakiniku restaurant).

A regular lettuce plus some bite-sized veggies kind of salad? My experience has been the opposite; every Korean bbq place I've been to along the US east coast and a handful in southeast Asia have provided the leaf (usually lettuce) as described in the article and I can't think of any that served what I would consider a regular salad.

The crazy thing is that I am practically in K-town. The two nearest grocery stores are both Korean, and if you drew a line between the two and looked at the center you would find my house. Is it because I'm in a West coast state? We're closer to Korea! I just don't know how this happens.

It just so happens that I was commiserating with a friend about the demise of the Korean barbeque restaurant around the corner from where I used to work. Maybe not such a good idea to upgrade from sushi/Korean home cooking to those expensive barbeque tables, especially with a an established Brazilian grill nearby. In any case, she passed me her favorite recipe and cooking instruction source for homestyle Korean - Maangchi's YouTube channel.
