Who kills whales anymore? wtf. Why isn't this banned like in almost every other country?
The article raises the point that the whales they primarily catch and eat aren't endangered. I wasn't aware of this before, and it has changed my perspective a bit. What's wrong with eating minke whale, versus e.g. salmon or tuna?
For starters, whales are mammals and not fish. Cetaceans all have fairly high intelligence. These whales used to not be hunted at all because they were less desirable than larger whales; they aren't endangered because we were too busy hunting all the others. We shouldn't be hunting them just because.
So like if u could find a species of whale that was as dumb as a cow and abundant in the ocean, would you be cool with people hunting and eating it as long as we regulated things so it was sustainable?
Aren't endangered yet.
Slippery slope arguments are logical fallacies.
The harsh reality is the vertebrate populations have been slashed by 60% in the last 50 years. It's not a slippery slope at all.

That's still not really relevant to the issue here though. Just because other vertebrate populations have declined/are declining it doesn't mean that this specific population must do so as well.
