      The article raises the point that the whales they primarily catch and eat aren't endangered. I wasn't aware of this before, and it has changed my perspective a bit. What's wrong with eating minke...

      The article raises the point that the whales they primarily catch and eat aren't endangered. I wasn't aware of this before, and it has changed my perspective a bit. What's wrong with eating minke whale, versus e.g. salmon or tuna?

These whales used to not be hunted at all because they were less desirable than larger whales; they aren't endangered because we were too busy hunting all the others. We shouldn't be hunting them just because.

              That's still not really relevant to the issue here though. Just because other vertebrate populations have declined/are declining it doesn't mean that this specific population must do so as well.
