I personally really hope that they do, as I love extremely deep games. Altough, I don't have too much hope, due to just how encompassing the game seems to be.

Well, on a quick read, they have a proprietary engine. If this were a Unity project I'd have said no. Since they are building their own, it's certainly possible to craft an engine that doesn't make the same mistakes or have the same overhead as more generalized gaming engines that aren't specifically built for 4X design. We won't know if they've pulled it off until there's a working alpha, though.
I've been on a 4X kick lately, so I'll be watching this project with interest. I'd love a game with that kind of depth.
