I think Mojang need to consolidate existing features rather than promise brand new ones. They also need to abandon the code of conduct they're trying to push on the player base that would effectively ban players from even playing the offline Single Player game, or connecting to any community-run servers if violated...

There's a serious amount of feature bloat in a thirteen-year-old children's block game, and I really think Mojang should consider a fully-blown sequel to keep the game fresh. Because once HyTale eventually does release, it has the potential to blow Minecraft out of the water.

Is HyTale actually any good? I figured it was just another minecraft clone when I looked at it a while back

Can't say for sure yet, but it's looking like a very well-made Minecraft competitor that is promising a lot of added features, like vertical chunks, better combat, improved multiplayer netcode, etc. Riot Games also invested in the project, so clearly they have confidence in it too. It also means the game will potentially have a ludicrous marketing budget behind it if Riot have a stake in the project.

Marketing isn't necessarily needed either, because there's already been a lot of community hype for HyTale. This game finally releasing would be like when Cube World officially launched, except without the developer - fresh off a 5 year hiatus - making negative gameplay progression changes that completely fuck things up.

Hypixel operate arguably the largest minigame servers for Minecraft, and they probably have very good reason to want to create this game. Minecraft has pretty bad netcode and trying to create anything remotely resembling a MMO experience is nightmarish, even when you're not running an anarchy server like 2b2t where hacking is not only allowed but encouraged. Not to mention that the game is full of security flaws.

Also, Microsoft could potentially erode the Java Edition community in the long run, especially with the report system and community standards they're trying to push on the community. What they're trying to do is a serious overreach on community servers, and it means that you can be reported and banned from the game outright (not even being able to launch single player) if you say bad words on a community server with third party moderators.

It's like having your whole Steam account locked out because you called someone a bad word on a random CS 1.6 server.

Oh damn that sounds promising! Honestly have gotten pretty sick of the direction Mojang's been taking the game so I'm gonna check that out! Also don't remind me about Cube World T_T

Huh. I forgot about that. It's disappointing that there were so many features that they promised for caves & cliffs that they didn't deliver, and it took a while for them to deliver the ones they did get to. However, I'm glad they're taking their time instead of rushing things out the door - they've been nailing it lately, and I think the newer updates really have improved the game a lot. As someone who's been playing since ~1.0, while I do appreciate the simplicity of the older versions of the game, I do think that the newer updates have done an amazing job of improving the ambiance of the game and keeping it fresh. I started a new survival playthrough recently, which I haven't done in a long time, and the newer details that they've added lately really tie things together nicely.
