Saw there have been few posts about rhythm games over the years. Any Clone Hero players here?

I used to play Frets on Fire when I was not an adult with disposable income to spend on real Guitar Hero. If this has a good library of music, I might check it out.

I got it installed and got my Guitar Hero Live (that's the one with 3x2 buttons) on the wall next to the PC, but eh, much to prepare for it. I want to get speakers (so far I only got a headset at my PC, never used anything else in >20 years), and I needed a larger screen that I finally got.

Might finish that setup soon and play around with it.

It plays great with keyboard and mouse or a controller but is also designed with DJ boards in mind. It also works great on the Steam Deck!

I work from home and it's been a great way for me to help deal with stress. Just toss on Clone Hero, plug in my second hand Wiimote guitar, and wail on a few songs.

Anyone else in here enjoy it? I'd love to get some contests or something going!

I've played Clone Hero in the past, it was a lot of fun. Haven't played since getting a VR headset. It was very hard for me to make significant progression on the game (going to higher difficulties) however that's not an issue I've had with VR rhythm games.

I think my old Les Paul is still functional but gathering dust.

I haven’t really gotten into VR yet. What kind of rhythm games exist over there. There’s a big air guitar one, right?

Many VR games do exist which I will mention below. It would help to see gameplay of those games if you are interested. Of note is that each game tends to have their own style of music so you may prefer a game simply due to that.

On the Meta (Facebook) side, they own the company who creates Beat Saber ( https://beatsaber.com/ ) because it is a very popular rhythm game and there is a focus for making VR more of a fitness type platform. It is certainly a worthy "use light saber to chop up blocks" game.

Two more rhythm games compete by allowing for ease of bringing music into the game (more on this later). One is Synth Riders ( https://synthridersvr.com/ ) which works better that you think it would. You move your "ball hands" to match up with the "ball notes" but you are scored based on how accurately you were able to do that. You aren't penalized for missing unless you really miss (like using the wrong hand for the wrong notes). The other is Ragnarock ( https://www.ragnarock-vr.com/ ) where you are a Viking drummer on a Viking ship drumming away at various tunes.

You can create custom tracks for those games or download custom tracks online (at https://synthriderz.com/ and https://ragnacustoms.com/ ). Of note, Beat Saber "can" take custom music but that requires modding the game and that modding breaks frequently (more info at https://bsaber.com/ and the PC game should be easier to modify than the Oculus game).

More games exist for VR. One notable thing I follow is a "magazine" created from a person from Reddit. The magazine appears to be a "rolling release" where the latest version contains all content from the prior versions (more or less) meaning that you should be ok if you only read the latest edition. The magazine and site are strange in that you are expected to click on the image boxes to navigate to more information about those various things.

Page 54 and page 80 (at the current magazine link below) highlight a few different rhythm games.

Here is the site - https://gibbysguide.org/

Here is the latest edition - https://gibbysguide.org/content/gibbysguidev22_lores.pdf

Their Reddit account (where they post various updates about the magazine) is https://www.reddit.com/user/uncledefender/

(Notably, some prior editions seem to be accessible from the last page of the current edition and all are accessible if you modify the magazine URL accordingly.)

VR seems to roughly try to bring a "DDR" arcade sort of feel to the living room. It certainly seems to work quite well for that.

The other reply is very detailed so I'll be short in mine. I mostly play Beat Saber, not the only game I have but it's just the most fun and the one I keep coming back to, likely that's partly because it has the most custom songs available (I think). Audica is good too, it's made by Harmonix so they know what they are doing, though I find it harder to play for any length of time since your arms are extended pretty much the whole time. I've also played Synthriders which is good as well.
The one I've had my eye on but haven't played is Ragnarock, I was always more drawn to drums in Rock Band but last time I took a look, the reviews weren't the best.
