I was going to reply with the /r/speedrun VOD thread, as has been our tradition all these years... but they still haven't posted it yet, and I need to pack up my comp now since I'm moving in the morning. And I probably won't be back on Tildes for at least a few days too, but potentially longer depending on how long it takes us to unpack and get settled at the new place. So unfortunately you're likely going to have to post it yourself this time. :(

I just re-broke my foot while playing basketball and will be on the couch all week, so I’ll have plenty of time to watch!
My extremely short list of the games I’m most excited about is below, but I’m sure there will be dozens of other runs that I vastly enjoy.
Astro bot, Metroid prime, super Metroid, breath of the wild, horizon forbidden west, call of duty 4, last of us, Pokémon, Skyrim, awful block, dark forces remaster, tears of the kingdom, kaizo Mario world 3, super Mario world, metal gear solid, Elden ring, ocarina of time randomizer is my “short” list of the things I’m extremely excited for, but really there are very few games on the schedule that have me thinking “I don’t really need to watch that”.
What a schedule this event, just bangers everywhere.
Thanks. This reinjury isn’t as severe as when I first fully broke my foot in July. It took me 6 months to feel near 100% and then I broke it again on Friday (I obviously was not actually 100%),...
Thanks. This reinjury isn’t as severe as when I first fully broke my foot in July. It took me 6 months to feel near 100% and then I broke it again on Friday (I obviously was not actually 100%), but after just a couple days, I’m already where I was after a couple months of my initial recovery. I’m hoping I’ll be able to put weight on it again within a couple weeks, but I think I’m now going to be a couple months out before I get back to basketball or working out in general. It’s just disappointing when I was losing weight and actually looking forward to the gym 3 times a week. At least I picked winter to re-break it and not have to waste a second summer of my life recovering from the same injury.

revolug’s Super Sheffy World 2: The Quest for 5 Shells (Twitch, YouTube) was a fantastic run. It’s a kaizo Super Mario World romhack that requires genuinely ridiculous skill to get through. One level begins with a triple shell jump juggling trick with no floor in which the runner doesn’t even sweat. He had to do it multiple times due to dying later in the level, and watching him clutch that flashy opening each time is stunning.
It also features an unintentional commentary goof that had me genuinely laughing out loud.
The Super Mario Bros. any% race (Twitch, YouTube) is a must-watch run, in my opinion. The four runners all play on original hardware, but there’s an open source program that takes that output and combines it all on one screen, with bonus features like an overview map and instant replay ability.
The setup isn’t just a good quality of life improvement: it genuinely makes races more exciting to watch because the program syncs up the runs between the different devices. In the past, if a runner started their game slightly ahead of the others on the countdown, it would look like they were in the lead, when really they just began earlier. With this program, you can see precisely when runs are tied down to the frame. It’s very cool to watch runners go much of the run exactly in sync.
The runs themselves are, of course, impressive, but what really wowed me was the technical setup and what it does for races. I’m always blown away by what programmers are doing in the speedrun community to advance the scene, and this feels like a major step forward. I’d love to see this incorporated in other games. Watching a Celeste run on this would be a dream!
They do four separate runs of the game (the full speedrun itself is only about 5 minutes long), and if you’re asking yourself why you’d want to watch four runs of the same thing each time, I’ll pique your interest with this:
In Run #3, one of the runners pulls a live trick (and a massive flex) that’s one of the coolest moments I’ve ever seen in any GDQ. You’ll know it when you see it.
Run #4 is by far the most suspenseful and exciting of the runs. It’s a great ending.
Xem’s Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando (Twitch, YouTube) max% run is good on its own, but the real feature is the ending. Xem is a trained opera singer and performs following his run. It was very impressive, and way more high-effort than I was expecting.
I watched all of these live and I agree, they were all great moments! I'm bummed I missed some stuff I wanted to watch live today. I set my alarm clock and woke up four hours later, having...

I'm bummed I missed some stuff I wanted to watch live today. I set my alarm clock and woke up four hours later, having probably brutalized the poor device (which is 2m away from my bed) without even waking up... Oh well, to the youtube videos.

Today I recommend the New Super Mario Bros. Wii piano playing run. I also managed to go back and watch White Day (I knew the game) and Crypt Custodian (which I played recently). It was interesting to compare the Crypt Custodian speedrun with my own playthrough; I completely missed how much distance you could get with dash followed by airdash while playing. My playthroughs are usually more completionist so I had little interest in skipping fights (monsters drop money and I needed it to buy all the equipables), but I was flabbergasted to find most of the locked gates in the game can simply be dashed around!
Looking forward to the Rocket League showcase next.
Been waiting for this to start, always a good way to start my first week back at work after Christmas and New Year, stick it on in the background while I get on with my job.

His late-game movement once he has all the abilities is utterly mesmerizing.
Also this inspired me to pick up the randomizer myself (casually, not as a speedrun) if I can get it working on my Steam Deck.

I’m not sure if you can watch the event or do any of the cool in-person extras without a badge, but if you can and have time, I would definitely check some stuff out.
If you’re still around (and free) on Saturday afternoon, they’ve got a run of Crazy Taxiwith a live band. The music from the game itself is iconic (The Offspring), but also not stream friendly due to copyright, so instead of simply muting it for the run, they’re having a band play covers. It’ll certainly be great on stream, but it’ll undoubtedly be 1000x better in person.
Hope you’re able to set up some impromptu meet ups with fellow Tildebeasts!

Final day of GDQ today! This has been a stellar event so far, one of their best ever.
Today is an absolutely monster schedule. SpongeBob the movie game, Pokémon ruby/sapphire race, Elden ring dlc lockout bingo, Elden ring played on saxophone, crazy taxi with a live backing band, ocarina of time no logic randomizer, echoes of wisdom, and super Metroid map randomizer race. Absolutely crazy. I tuned in during Ristar and I’ll be watching through to the end.
As a massive fromsoft fan, I’m particularly looking forward to the lockout bingo race, but I also love randomizers, so OOT and Super Metroid are going to be amazing.
I’ll probably spend some time tomorrow watching VODs for some of the runs I missed.

The first run on Friday is a Tetris the Grand Master showcase, now with less setup time because TGM1 and TGM2 were released on Switch and PS4.
The players presenting the game are some of the top players in our little community; only mackir seems to be a newcomer (I don't know them). Otherwise they are all TGM3 Gms (which is insanely hard to do). Spc is currently at the top of our leaderboard, and you may know EricICX for being an elite NES Tetris player and CTCW champion.
That's certainly a good way to hype the series while waiting for TGM4 that was recently announced!
Also, in case anyone needs an intro to TGM, PetitPrince has got that covered with this great video. It goes into a lot of specifics that help you appreciate high-level Tetris play even more (which...

This TGM showcase is unbelievable right now.
The skill on display is genuinely breathtaking.
And the announcer just killed it:
Let’s give it up for our Tetris Grand Masters! I’m afraid if we line them all up they’ll disappear on us.
EDIT: It’s finished. Shirase mode was stunning. I don’t think I blinked! Tell your pals they did an incredible job! EricICX in particular had a series of excellent runs. I couldn’t stop watching his screen (although at the beginning I thought it was mackie’s because the nametags didn’t match up with the stacks).
Fun (?) fact: he managed toplay with a broken rotation button the whole goddamn time. TGM uses 3 rotations button - CCW, CW, alt-CCW - and his alt-CCW was dead. It's not essential and he could...

Fun (?) fact: he managed toplay with a broken rotation button the whole goddamn time. TGM uses 3 rotations button - CCW, CW, alt-CCW - and his alt-CCW was dead. It's not essential and he could (obviously) still play, but it's quite handy for some specific moves at high speed.
One of the most impressive thing for me is the live comment while playing done by Mackiegarou.

Holy shit, what a GDQ. Even before today, I thought this might be the best event they’ve ever put on, but I woke up before SpongeBob this morning and every single run today was just a banger, from Elden Ring bingo, to a Super Metroid randomizer race that came down to A SECOND, to a live punk band for crazy taxi, just today’s schedule was enough to cement this as an all time event, but the entire week was full of bangers, not to mention raising over 2.5 million dollars for PCF!
It feels almost pointless to make a list of top runs or favorites, basically every run was amazing and all of the skits were great too, I don’t have a single bad thing to say.
My favorites:
The entire last day, like the entire last day. Though if I had to pick a favorite run, it would be Elden Ring bingo, I am a simp for fromsoft.
Otherwise some other runs I loved where Portal 2, Super Meat Boy, Horizon Forbidden West, Astro Bot, Tomb Raider, Metroid Prime, basically any Mario or kaizo game this marathon, DK Tropical Freeze, and Skyrim.
And that’s just from the list I was able to watch. I didn’t get to watch anything between midnight and 8am CST, really. I still have the awful block to watch as well as some runs that I was really looking forward to like Call of Duty 4, Metal Gear Solid, Deus Ex, Bullets Per Minute, I missed the entire Friday night Mario block, and others. I sure won’t have a shortage of content to watch over the coming weeks.
Also, I cried a bit during Sent’s last segment as the prize wizard. I’m happy for him and his promotion, but it’s the end of an era.
Will there be 7 minutes Morrowind speedrun? The game is wonderful, it just should be played for more than seven minutes, really. Good idea and for good cause.

I wanted to be in bed more than two hours ago but was completely blindsided by the awesome Chunithm showcase (I never know in advance when these games are rhythm games, since there is no arcade culture here...). Recommend everyone watches the video when it's out (as long as you don't hate rhythm games I guess). Impressive performance from the players in every way and great energy from the commentary!

I just re-broke my foot while playing basketball and will be on the couch all week, so I’ll have plenty of time to watch!
My extremely short list of the games I’m most excited about is below, but I’m sure there will be dozens of other runs that I vastly enjoy.

Hoping for a good recovery!
