I love the honest reflections and personal anecdotes. An introspection of the soul. I thought I knew Disco Elysium pretty well but this video taught me quite a few new things. I also recommend playing the game first if you can--but this video is good to watch even if you'll never play the game.

Also, here is the video that the YouTuber mentioned was inspiration to try to make a long-form video:

Action Button is a fantastic channel, I can't recommend enough. The Boku no Natsuyasumi video and the Tokimeki Memorial videos are two of my favorite essays ever.

Finish the game before you watch video essays! You only get to play it the first time once!

You're absolutely fine timing-wise -- you can't really run out of time and the game will clearly signal when you're about to reach a "point of no return" (and even once you have, only a handful of sidequests aren't able to be continued afterwards). So feel free to be as detail oriented as you want! Going through slowly and methodically is a good way to go. The only thing that progresses the main quest is advancing it yourself by doing the relevant stuff (which you can't do on accident), so your phasmid hunting time is fine.

You've put my mind at ease. Will likely make a post with questions and impressions once I've wrapped the game.

Always very skeptical about these multiple hour analysis videos on Youtube. Most of the ones I did watch could have been halved or even thirded or foureth (are those words? lol) in length. Almost always they are just reiterating the same point over and over or in more and more unnecessarily detailed ways. Well, good if people like it but it's definetily not for me anymore. The only one I liked is the 4 hour video about an obscure theme park that Jenny Nicholson did and only because of how funny she is. And it became more of a documentary than a review/analysis

The Star Wars Hotel one? Yeah, that one was pretty good--but that didn't need to be four hours long either. It could be summed up as "person goes to expensive hotel experience but the pole blocks the view during breakfast, lunch, and dinner". Of course, the video itself is more entertaining than that...

This one is not as funny but my eyes got wet a few times. I think this video sums up the Disco Elysium experience well enough if you wanted to skip the 25+ hour investment of playing the game but it is worth watching on its own merits. If you know the game already you could skip large chunks of the video. The editing is very tidy and he doesn't bring up the same point over and over
