I hope someone in the netherlands or belgium uses a VPN to open boxes in another country and causes them to get fined. Loot boxes in gaming needs to go, forever.

Always get confused with this; loot boxes that are paid, right? Random drops in an RPG won't go away?

For purely cosmetic purposes, I see no issue with adults purchasing keys/loot boxes. My issue is if it becomes pay to win. I think that loot boxes are fine in TF2/CS:GO/OW, but were unacceptable...

Kept limited to pure cosmetics, is there that much of a problem?

I personally don't like a gambling system of any type, because RNG is unfair... but cosmetic only is fine I suppose.

At least in the case of pure cosmetics, it could be argued that it does help support the game. With TF2 going Free to Play and the introduction of loot crates, the game spawned an economy for itself and Valve that has likely breathed life and development into the game for years longer than it otherwise would have been played. That said, it is still gambling and the risks of such should be able to be understood before participating.

You can sell the cosmetics directly without a RNG based system. There are plenty of games with this model that are successful.

In CSGO/TF2, you are able to purchase the exact item you would like for it's value off of the steam market (or directly through another player if they and you have a clean reputation) as an alternative to gambling for a chance at the item. Probably not exactly the other games offer, but it seems to be a happy medium between the two, but then I enjoy RNG and will roll the dice once or twice a year, so I have bias.

The price disparity between these RNG gambling systems and games without RNG based cosmetics is absurd.
