I absolutely love summoning salt's mini-documentaries on the history of the world record progression of particular games and this new one was just released today. His research is top notch and all his videos are really interesting, IMO. So if you liked this video and/or are a fan of speedrunning in general, be sure to check out his other "Word Record Progression" videos as they are all really unique. Some games people get faster by breaking the hell out of them with newly discovered glitches or shortcuts and some just by pure grinding for months or even years to shave off mere seconds over the last record.

p.s. There was a pretty good race of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle this last AGDQ as well that is worth watching.

2 hours after posting that video, Dage4 set a new world record with a 22:36. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSvUpzRN1Dk

I’m amazed at the occasional bursts of new WRs in speedrunning. I think my favorite was the burst of WRs in Strider after the AGDQ18 tutorial.

For a few years now I've worked in the area of growing communities for games, and people always seem to underestimate how useful (and in many cases vital) it is to be producing tutorials, guides, and general stuff to get people started without having to search for a discord link and work up the courage to ask the in-crowd for tips.

It's so powerful and IMO one of the fundamental things that any established community should be doing if it wants to attract new people.
