DMs of Tildes, what’s your favorite adventure to introduce new players to D&D?

The title pretty much says it all. I’m looking to introduce some people to D&D and I’m trying to find the perfect adventure to do so.

If you're looking for a one-shot to gauge interest, the adventure included in the starter pack works well enough. If you want something with a bit more meat, go with Lost Mine of Phandelver.

I usually browse through the entrants of the One Page Dungeon Contest until I find something I think will fit the players and/or the characters they want to play. Once they've gained some experience (and shown some commitment) I run them through The Twilight Tomb as their first proper adventure, mostly because that's the published adventure I've run the most times and thus know best.

While on the Topic of DnD. How would one find a group to play with in his local area? I've wanted to play for like 10 years and never found a group that would be interesting to try sitting through it. Let alone a somebody who knows it well enough to DM. The one group i did get together did like an hour of it and never met again.

So, where should I be on the look out for a friendly group of nerds for DnD?

If you can find some friends/coworkers who are all new and a little interested, it can be fun to crack into it together, all going in blind.

For introducing new players to DnD, I recommend matt colville's 5 Encounter Goblin Dungeon. It's easy to run, with a clear goal, and it has a lot of elements that make DnD what it is(goblins! and traps, secret doors, etc.). The link will send you to his youtube video. You can find pregenerated characters and the dungeon files in the video description. I highly, highly using the pregenerated characters; They can customize the characters by choosing a name and background, maybe.
