Flight simulators: Do you play any? Which planes do you pilot the most? Do you have a home cockpit?
Hi,
I am looking into flight simulator games, they seem pretty cool, i've seen videos of guys with cockpits on their homes, is there any tilder(?) that plays any flight simulator and has a cockpit at home? If so tell what your setup is and maybe post some photos :)
I do!
Not a full cockpit or anything but I have slowly built up bits and pieces over time. I use it mostly for procedure and checklist training. I have 3 x 27" 1080p monitors, which helps with having airport charts on one, checklists on another and Xplane in the middle.
I run Arch Linux with X-plane through steam (Runs really well) and then have a Logitech X56 pro with a heap of custom mappings. Also use Vatsim now and then for a bit more realistic ATC.

Pretty cool :) wasn't really expecting some answer, i'm actually looking for xplane (the only native on linux that supports vatsim/ivao) , for how much did you bought it? Are there some regular discounts?
Yeah X-plane works really well on Linux from my experience.
X-plane I just bought on steam - I think it was around US$60?
The Logitech X56 was around US$299 but has been so much fun :)
What's that thing on the left side of your keyboard? I don't think I've seen anything quite like it before.
It's part of the joystick - throttles + a heaaaap of buttons.

I've been meaning to do this but it gets pricey so we'll have to see how things go
I play flight sims occasionally, but much more casually than most people who play flight sims. Recently I've been playing Aerofly FS 2, due to it's amazing VR support. Honestly flight sims are one of the best VR experiences out there, and if you have a VR headset I'd recommend trying one out.
i'll give it a look, i have oculus rift cv1 (rant though i regret buying it cause oculus doesn't give a shit about linux support, my next HMD, assuming that HTC/Valve continues supportin linux will be vive /rant)
Thanks for the suggestion :)
I own FSX, but have never really played much. Bought a used HOTAS a few years ago, but it was broken, haven't really bothered since.
X-Plane 11 looks promising, if expensive, and it's even on Linux natively. I might give that a go some time.
