Essentially the same deal they did with the Division 2. From the view of a consumer, it's obviously bad, even though Ubisoft games have always just launched Uplay, so I've only really bought them there anyway even though Steam is a better platform. I'm sure this was the intention with making everything launch Uplay anyway.

From the view of Ubisoft, this makes a lot of sense. The Division 2 sold well despite skipping Steam and now that you have the choice between a shitty platform and a shittier platform, most people will directly go to Uplay anyway. So Ubisoft pockets a bunch of free cash from Epic and increase sales on their own storefront. Though I wonder what Epic is getting from this?

I can't believe that a lot of people bought Division 2 on their store, so it seems to me that they're just throwing money away. Perhaps this is more about denying the game to users on other platforms (particularly Steam), but it still seems a waste of money to me. Though Epic has a lot of that lying around apparently, so they can definitely afford it.

It seems like Epic is doing whatever they can with their ridiculous cash flow to buy as much of a market share as possible by forcing people to use the EGS to get games they want to play, right out of the gate. The Fortnite money won't last forever though, and it's doubtful they'll ever make the profits that Steam has made to keep such spending up (since they can't secure a monopoly in the digital storefront market).

I'm just going to wait them out. I don't need to play any of these exclusives anytime soon, nor do I feel particularly compelled to buy them at full price.
