Well I'll be damned. After the GOG team's initial announcement about their goals with Galaxy 2.0, I thought it was nothing more than a pipe-dream with no chance in hell of becoming reality. But the fact that they are already well under way implementing unofficial integration methods that are supposedly still quite impressive, makes me suddenly optimistic.

I desperately hope that Blizzard, EA, Valve, etc. eventually do officially sign on to this, but if even without that GOG can still manage to make Galaxy good enough that I can stop using the other launchers for most game library management tasks, I would be super stoked and switch over to it in a heartbeat. And if they can manage to consolidate the various platform chats too, that would just be icing on the cake.

I first heard about this two weeks ago, and have been doing my best not to get my hopes up... but I have now upgraded to "cautiously optimistic".

At this point, the ball is in Valve’s court. 10 years ago, I would have said they’re the ones who would actually go all in with something like this if they genuinely feel it leads to a better service for gamers. Nowadays, I don’t know what to think of Valve.

I was hoping for something like linux package managers where software comes from repos but you can add custom repos and it all just works with the one bit of package manager software.

And if the underlying code of Galaxy 2.0 is going to be open source, then I guess it would have to be able to compile for Linux, which is nice/mandatory to have. I signed up for the beta, so I guess we'll see how it goes.
