There's more to this than the headline lets on, as always, but the crux of his point really is, to paraphrase, "just shut up". I don't know if I agree with Mr. Murray's assessment, given that I lived through the No Man's Sky fallout and I recall Hello Games' (and specifically Sean Murray's) silence being a huge source of fuel for the fallout fire. Still, it's hard to argue with results and No Man's Sky is, if not a Cinderella story, as close as one can get.

The problem though, is no matter what you do, it's fuel for the fire. If you apologize, people crucify you for thinking that a simple apology could make up for it. If you outline a plan, people will criticize you for being too vague. If you go into excruciatingly minute detail, people will drag you through the mud months later when the plan inevitably has to deviate slightly because of unforeseen circumstances. Companies have tried every permutation of these courses of action, and none of them have seemed to ever be able to quell the white hot rage of angry gamers on the internet.
At least if you just shut up, you can focus 100% of your energy into making the game better and addressing the problem. I'm sure it's also much better for the mental health of the devs working on the thing.

I agree with ~The_Fad. Hello Games over promised, under delivered, and were unable to handle the backlash from it. I truly believe Hello Games was abandoning No Man's Sky because of there silence during that fiasco. I bet most of the returns during that period where of the same opinion.

Hello Games isn't radio silent now, but generally it doesn't share too much until there's something fairly tangible to show off.

This is how it should have been handled from the beginning, Basically ignore the online "hot takes" focus on what is broken, fix it. Once you break a social contract, the only way to actually fix it is with actions not words
