I suppose it says something about Brexit that this feature was first introduced into the series three iterations ago, in Football Manager 2017. And still today, they need to use a random number generator to simulate what might happen. Let's see if FM2020, which comes out in a couple of months, still needs to.

Sports Interactive has always had a very strong interest in realism and simulation. So much so that many real life clubs use FM as a scouting tool.

I'm frankly in awe with what the Collyer brothers have been able to do there. But at the same time, for me, the level of detail that has been added to the game ultimately stopped me playing it. I loved the 1992 Championship Manager, and played plenty of Championship Manager 2, but after that one, with the series switching to yearly releases and ultimately changing the title to Football Manager, it just got progressively more detailed to the point where I feel lost whenever I try to play it. I give the new versions a try every now and then, but even the stripped down Touch / Classic / whatever they call it these days versions are just too much work for me to understand.

    But nonetheless, I'm very impressed.
