Not really shocked, I never felt like Discord should have even tried to enter into the game space. Feel like it should just keep focusing on what it does well, creating and cultivating communities. I don't need or care for Discord to be a games library or storefront, just identifying what games I play and offering discords that match those games is enough for me.

Unfortunately "creating and cultivating communities" and the Nitro subs+boosts that go along with that is unlikely to be able to pay the bills for their 100-250 est. employees, HQ in downtown San Fran and their undoubtedly expensive third-party server infrastructure... which is precisely why they have already had to take on $280M in VC in order to keep going. However that VC money and investment stream won't last forever, so if they don't find a way to become profitable eventually, they are going to run into trouble and risk having to shut down.

At times I really think it would be better if they just were taxed higher and had that money pumped into hospitals, schools, and roads.

It was an interesting gesture and all, but aside from playing one game for a few hours I never really touched it again. It's just not the first place I'd go looking for games and I'm not sure how they'd really overcome that considering it's not explicitly a game store service. I'd think text, voice, and video value-added features would be the more logical place to look for a business model. Something like soundboard shortcuts in voice chat (that can be set to ignored) or video effects and overlays seem likelier candidates.

That would be downright hilarious, especially if I could add custom sounds clips.

Good to see they have halved boosting requirements for level 3 boost. I would honestly prefer a $4.99 boost only feature than the current nitro+boost for $9.99.
