This may actually be a dealbreaker for me. Rockstar has always been decent at making games, but horrible, absolutely, mind mindbogglingly awful at writing ancillary software for those games. From UIs, to friends lists, to invite systems, it's almost hilarious how bad they are at it. I truly and honestly think a first year CS student could do a better job.
I was already at the teetering edge of being done with their games forever just solely due to the amount of that garbage in GTA5. I can't honestly trust them to do a better job with a launcher. So long Rockstar. Your games were sort of OK for a bit.

I don't know if I'd call all of them fantastic. I haven't played any of the red dead games as I never owned a console, but GTA1 and 2 were pretty good games, GTA3 and Vice City were legitimately fantastic, GTA4 and Max Payne 3 were alright, and GTA5 was average. I've enjoyed most of their games that I've played, but not enough to put up with yet another undoubtedly aggravating hurdle to jump over to play their games.

Its unit sales certainly aren't average. It's sold more copies than any other game to date. I've also gotten more enjoyment out of GTA Online than any other game I've ever played. I don't mean that each minute is more enjoyable, I mean it keeps me coming back, repeatedly and regularly. Even things I've done hundreds of times is still fun. Couple that with how well they imitated a world with actual people, and average is a disservice.

I wish it were average... having games of this quality be the norm instead of the exception would be a boon for all gamers.

What does how well it sold have to do with anything? It was the most expensive game ever produced, with the biggest marketing budget for a videogame ever made by a long shot. It would be shocking...

What does how well it sold have to do with anything? It was the most expensive game ever produced, with the biggest marketing budget for a videogame ever made by a long shot. It would be shocking if it didn't sell well. That doesn't really have any bearing on its quality.

The fact that it has so many systems and parts is impressive, but again, that's kind of what happens when you spend a quarter of a billion dollars on making a game. The issue is that none of it is cohesive, the story wasn't particularly compelling, and the main characters were really, really unlikable. I'm glad you enjoyed it, but I thought Vice City was a much, much tighter game.

People generally don't buy products they don't like. Some people bought it for consoles, then again for PC when it was released for that platform. Even less people buy products they don't like twice. User reviews on Metacritic are at 7.7. On Steam it's 72%. It continues to top sales charts, six years after release. You are free to not like it (as is anyone), you're free to feel it wasn't a good fit for you, but by any objective measure, the game is well liked and prosperous. Subjectively speaking, the game is fun for a great many people. Fun, liked, and successful. What else does a game need to be to be good?

I, too, loved Vice City, but felt the story was uninspiring... it was the setting I loved, and I spent a great many hours running around its streets doing what I wanted, not what a storyteller decided I should want. GTA V is exactly the same (moreso, actually, given its online mode.)

Playing those games always required launching Rockstar Social Club. I guess Rockstar Game Launcher just replaced it, similar to how EA's Origin replaced their previous non-launcher EA service?

As much as I don't like how much of a stranglehold Steam has on the games industry, if it's not on Steam, I just don't end up playing it. I don't want everything starting with my PC on boot so whenever it's not on Steam, I find whenever I want to play the game, I open it's shitty proprietary launcher and it's got an update to download for the launcher, then an update for the game, then it's got to install the update for the game. Once all that's done I've lost interest and I'm playing something else.

I get that it's MY fault. But if your shitty proprietary launcher doesn't bring anything worthwhile to the table, I don't care. I've seen the argument for the EGS that Steam was a piece of shit when it launched. When Steam launched there was no competitors so it could afford to be. Now if you want me to use your service, make me want to use your service.

Social Club account all the way if you want it but don't already own it.)
