No one from the original Bioshocks is involved, which worries me. 2K has the ability to just let devs be devs, as shown with studios like Firaxis, and Gilmore apparently had something to do with Firaxis. But still, I don't want Bioshock 76 in 2022, I want a real game, preferrably set in Rapture. Infinite was nice, but I think that a story about the horrors of a lawless ultra-capitalistic society just ring more true today than a story about a religiously zealous city. I also think that Rapture was just more atmospheric, but in all honesty, it's hard for anything to beat Rapture when it comes to atmosphere.
GamesRadar has an interview with Kelley Gilmore, the head of the new studio which includes some details like confirmation that Ken Levine won't be involved in this game.
I hate to fall into that "cynical gamer" stereotype but something about this interview is rubbing me the wrong way. I think the four back-to-back answers that all sound like PR talking points...
I hate to fall into that "cynical gamer" stereotype but something about this interview is rubbing me the wrong way. I think the four back-to-back answers that all sound like PR talking points instead of answers about this announced Bioshock news is what's doing it (from "Why is now the right time for a new BioShock game?" to "How do you hope or plan to utilise next-gen technology to enhance and further explore the core pillars of BioShock?").
2K isn't exactly a paragon of consumer value so I wouldn't be surprised if they basically had this studio on a short leash with marketing until the game is released. Reasonably, I'll adopt a wait-and-see approach to see how this game shapes up, but I really hope this interview isn't a sign of anything more than a strict PR policy.

Given the way the games industry is going these days--and especially the way 2K is going these days--being the cynical gamer is absolutely the right approach. These companies don't have our best interests in mind, and only view us as consumers. As sources of revenue. There's only greed. That's all there is. From 2k's announcement that all of their games going forward will have "recurrent user spending" (read: microtransactions), it's clear that they just want money.
I would recommend staying far away from anything 2k (or any of the other major publishers) has anything to do with, except maybe Nintendo in a few cases (just don't do their mobile crap). The games industry's greed is going to result in a crash, as it's rapidly becoming unsustainable--especially with the state of the world economy.

It'd be highly hypocritical for 2K to make a game like that l suppose.
It is of any of the big publishers, really.
