I'm really hoping the Ori and the Will of the Wisps incentive gets met for tomorrow!

EDIT: It got met, and it was excellent! YouTube and Twitch links. Massive spoiler warning.

Forgot to post this yesterday, but the event raised $2,315,121 USD for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières. In one of their final interviews one of the GDQ staff gave stats and said, IIRC, that they received donations from 67 different countries, which is absolutely incredible!

An alternative VOD list to the one @cfabbro posted is here for anyone who wants to watch any of the event.

r/speedrun as well has their usual thread about must watch runs from the event if you're looking for a place to start, but honestly I find that speedrunning is best enjoyed when you know the game you're watching so you can better appreciate what's going on, so I'd say go with whatever games you recognize from the list!

As a long-time GDQ watcher, I feel like this event had less standout moments than usual (though there were still plenty) but was overall consistently better on a run-by-run basis. The runners and commentary in particular were great all the way through, and the fact that it was done remotely opened the event up to a lot of runners who wouldn't normally be able to make an in-person GDQ.

SGDQ 2019 raised more than $3m. Interesting how much effect the pandemic has had on the numbers. Not that 2.3 million is anything to scoff at.

I wonder how much the lack of a live audience and how much people's generally lower disposible income due to the pandemic contributed.

I think the viewership being down might be a factor, I actually missed it this year, I didn't know that it was running this past weekend until today, and based on the viewer counts in the VODs versus last year, it feels like there average viewer count is lower than 18/19 and the respective AGDQs. That part feels weird to me since folks probably have less going on now than the last few years, but I'm wondering if the marketing just wasn't there.

I'm back to evangelize Wirtual's TrackMania Nations Forever run (YouTube, Twitch).

    Reasons:

    • Wirtual's skill at the game is genuinely impressive, and is apparent even if you've never played the game
    • TrackMania's level design is interesting to watch, even if you've never played the game
    • His positive attitude and enthusiasm for the game are infectious
    • His commentary is excellent -- and he does it WHILE playing!
    • He pulls off a number of great tricks and saves live
    • The community completed most of a $10,000 donation incentive during his run (at an incredibly rapid pace), which was incredible to see at the time and is a great example of what makes GDQ such a good event
    • The shortcut exposition at the end is fantastic
