I have no illusions about Stadia continuing. But I'm definitely onboard for a free Chromecast and controller to pair with my phone.

....help me I'm deep in Google's cage and can't get out. Oh well, at least it's comfy in here.

I think the next iteration of home automation will be the good one. It's a bit too fractured yet to really be anything worth investing in from my view.

Funny thing, though - Back in like... Well, somewhere in the 90s, I visited Cisco's campus on a field trip, and they gave us a tour and all, but there was a demonstration at the end of some very early Home Automation stuff. Simple things, like raising and lowering blinds and proximity based awareness for the garage door… It was neat.

I could probably live without Google if not for that and the smartphone duopoly.

The cracks are starting to show though. On that note, if anybody knows how to keep Google from following up every other command with tips that I already know how to do, please let me know.

I just signed up. You have to subscribe to stadia pro at $10/month. They have a free month, and I plan on cancelling once I get my chrome cast. They put a $1 charge to my card. I hope that is just a hold to make sure the card is good, and it will be reversed later. I plan on checking with the people on my family plan to see if they can redeem it too. If so, we could get 5 free chrome casts out of this. Nice! My guess is it wont work though.

Edit: I walked my sister through the process. It let her do it. Neither of us have received the email about how to actually get the bundle shipped, so they may wise up before then. If not, I’ll be getting $350 of chrome cast for free through my YTP family plan!

Edit 2: it works! My sister and I both have a free bundle on the way! I’m sure I can find a use for the chrome casts, but I’m not sure what I’ll use the controllers for.

It says I'm not eligible, and I just signed up for YouTube Premium yesterday. (Got tired of ads.)

WTF is that about? Also, if you wanna get rid of ads in YouTube, I would recommend using uBlock or a Pi-Hole or Blockada (on Android), and instead pay your Premium fee to your favourite creators...

Also, if you wanna get rid of ads in YouTube, I would recommend using uBlock or a Pi-Hole or Blockada (on Android), and instead pay your Premium fee to your favourite creators to support them directly instead. Why give Alphabet more money?

Yeah, pi-hole can't really block YouTube ads, because it uses DNS to block entire domains, but YouTube ads generally come from the same domain as the videos. There's a thread on their forums about it that they recently locked, since there's not much to discuss: How do I block ads on YouTube?

You generally need a blocker on the device itself to get rid of YouTube ads.
