I'm really glad these guys finished it. Thanks to Black Mesa, HL1 is probably my favorite FPS of all time. When I want to just play a no bullshit run n gun game, it's HL1 all the way.

This is something of a surprise, given how recently Black Mesa was released. I really enjoyed what I played back then, quite a lot. I'm curious to see what they improved here but I honestly wonder if I'd even notice. The game was pretty convincingly high quality when I played it in March and I didn't think it was missing much, if anything.
I'm impressed they identified enough to call it a v1.5 or a Remaster. Going through some other articles and notes, it seems like they rethought some areas entirely to get players to do certain things, and put in a few more QoL features for players to know when they've picked something up.
I'll give it a whirl sometime, but probably not soon since I just picked up a few more games on the Steam sale today.

Is this final major update already out? I'm so used to "announcements of announcements" in gaming that I can't tell from reading the blog post!
This is the Source engine, right? So this should run on an older laptop? Or are they doing something crazy? How is the performance?
I was uncertain from the post too, but I believe it's released, yes. SteamDB shows a large update yesterday (the only one since April): https://steamdb.info/app/362890/patchnotes/

I know it would probably never happen but Valve should just let these guys make HL3 at this point. Absorb the studio or not just let these guys do it. I could even see them doing an Early Access run of the game so it’s not some overhyped disappointment and they can work with players and fans to do it right. That’s my dream anyway.

It's based on Source, but heavily modified to add modern graphical features.
