    This is a trip. I never would've made the connection, but there are definitely both similarities, and amplifications at work here. The girl's got to impress the boys*, but can't risk her position being usurped by some unqualified newbie, causing her to lash out at the entirety of womanhood with the powers of combined nerd rage and internalized misogyny.

    * I'm assuming kids, because this is very much what I think of as a high-school attitude. Adults pull it, but I'd wager many get over it before their senior year.
