But, I really wish it was not Massive and their Snowdrop Engine doing it, they are the newest studio to Ubisoft and honestly they do not have a good game under their belt yet. Every successful game in Ubisoft's hat is build on Ubisoft Montreal's AnvilNext Engine.

Either way, good we are getting rid of EA. I am cautiously optimistic for now.

I'm not sure it's fair to say they don't have a good game under their belt yet, this is the company behind some notable RTS titles (Ground Control and World in Conflict), and the Division games they've made under Ubisoft have been pretty decent at the least.

But an open world Ubisoft games doesn't inspire confidence in general based on... well, all other Ubisoft open world games. I'd trust Massive more than a number of the other Ubisoft studios with it right now (but maybe not their E3 presentation team).

You might not personally like their style, but millions of people do and its something they have been doing successfully for over a decade.

I am aware of Massive's RTS titles but they have nothing to do with this engine. The only open world experience they have is the Division which most consider to be pretty sub par (especially when compared to Ubi's other open world titles).

I'm a bit confused about how the much-maligned Ubisoft open worlds are good because many people enjoy them but the Division games aren't even though they were also enjoyed by many people.

They also had to tweak their open world design in 2017 starting with AC Origins after the whole "climb a tower" approach started resulting in lower sales, the current approach to open worlds experienced mass criticism that they felt they had to address within a few short years. Even still, AC Valhalla is seeing many of the same criticisms despite Ubisoft's claim to address the issues. Clearly their approach to open-world designs hasn't been without significant issue.

I haven't said any of their games are bad or unenjoyable (I quite like AC Origins and Odyssey and WD2) but their open-world approach has been widely criticized for a while now, even if the gameplay is otherwise good and the titles are generally polished (on consoles). What I have said is that I don't understand why Massive can't be trusted when the Divison games have been as well received as any of the other major Ubisoft AAA games in recent years. Right now, AC Valhalla and Watch Dogs 2 have the same Metacritic scores as The Division games, and all of them are much better received than the recently released Watch Dogs Legion.

This is not why AC was reworked at all. The open world aspects of the game were not what was making it stale, in fact that's basically the only parts that were retained after the switch. Just...

Just because a small vocal minority in the gaming community loves to hate on their format does not mean its bad or disliked. Its very consistent, well done and is loved by millions.

And another Republic Commando game would be appreciated too. C'mon Disney, you're sitting on a gold mine! Let some other studios get to work on them already! :P

Does Star Wars Squadrons not scratch that X-Wing/TIE Fighter itch? I've been hearing good things about it, and contemplated buying a HOTAS for it.

It definitely is fun to fly, but if we are being honest the story is terrible and the voice acting is some of the worst I have heard in a AAA title. The big thing about those older games were the single player aspects and thats where Squadrons is lacking.

Multiplayer is fun, but its not the best for a casual player. I open it up to play a few rounds every once in a while but it really sucks because the playerbase is smaller and the core players play it waaaaay more than the casual players.

I haven't played it yet myself, but the campaign for Squadrons is supposedly water thin and super short, so that's not really what I am looking for despite the game being mechanically similar. I am tempted to give it a try for the fleet battles, which are supposedly very reminiscent of Battlefront II, but I don't really care about multiplayer that much TBH... so, meh.
