Not sure if this is common knowledge, but unlike Bandcamp the itch.io cut is totally optional - you can slide the revenue share anywhere from 0-100%. I have share some of my revenue because I want to support itch, I'd want to support that regardless.

They've recommended putting games on sale, something I don't believe happens on Bandcamp. Seems like an excuse for a sale which generally ticks up interest, but if the onus is on supporting the devs then wouldn't it be better to encourage paying what the dev thinks is a fair price?

It was announced two days ago, which seems very short notice. At least for me for Bandcamp Fridays is something I'm awaiting for some time, holding off on any purchases otherwise.

There's also nothing about it on the frontpage, so unless you're an active engaged itch.io customer (which I imagine for itch is a large demographic) you probably wouldn't be aware of it.

Obviously anything that creates buzz for indie developers can only be a good thing - but why now, and why so suddenly with such little promotion? I haven't seen any increase in interest today for my games, but it's okay because I didn't know this was happening until just the other day anyway.

Probably more thought than it needs. Go buy some games! Itch is growing and improving faster and faster.

itch.io does Bandcamp Friday. I love it! I'll have to browse around for some neat looking projects, despite the fact that I definitely do not need any more itch.io games.

I definitely don't need any more games either, but I'm at least going to pick up MasterPlan. I'm not sure if I'll ever actually use it for anything significant, but I really like the concept of it.
