Hello everyone. I thought some of you might enjoy this before it potentially gets taken down.

Please enjoy my homage to the 35th anniversary of the Zelda series. Playable on desktop or mobile browsers. Use a keyboard, mouse, gamepad, or touch device. I recommend a SNES style gamepad! Thank you and have fun!

Let me know if you have any feedback or suggestions, still making a few last minute tweaks.

Some suggestions (I only played to level 2, maybe more later!):

      • No sword?? :(
      • Would love a way to block, though the dodge/dash does provide a damage mitigation
      • Appreciate that it fullscreens itself

Haha thank you! So this is a total reskin of another game I made 2 years ago for JS13k, the theme was Back, so I made it all about a boomerang. Though it was inspired by Zelda the art was original. However I had an idea recently to spend a day converting it over to use all Zelda assets just for fun because I've also recently polished up some of the engine parts of it and fixed mobile support.

So, back to what I was getting at, the reason there is no sword is because it was a size limited game jam and the theme was back and I wanted to distance it from zelda somewhat and experiment with boomerang mechanics.

I'd love to make a sequel some day that has as sword, shield as well as some other fun weapons and build it out more with upgrades and stuff.

A remix like this would have been great on the Switch in celebration of 35 years of Zelda, akin to the "Super Mario Bros 35" Battle Royale that was put out for Mario's 35th.

Two suggestions (and I only played up to level 5, so maybe this comes up later) would be to include a larger variety of weapons (melee?) and more overt references to different entries the series. I'm not sure what's possible, but maybe different levels could try to evoke different games. For example, maybe you could play as Ricky the boxing kangaroo on levels inspired by Oracle of Ages/Seasons.

But overall, so cool! As someone with no programming ability or gamedev knowledge, I envy your skill.

Thanks! So I mentioned earlier, this is a reskin of another game that I had made awhile ago and I didn't want to spend too much time making major changes. I know item offerings are slim for sure, only 2 types of boomerang, though you can at least hold multiple. Someday I'd like to make a sequel to my original game with all kinds of extra stuff. :)

Nice! I really like the fact that boomerangs affect darknuts, it makes for some really interesting interactions that it would have been nice to see explored in the original.

It would be fun to play a Zelda game where the first thing Link finds is a boomerang, that's kind of my concept here.

Every time I see a post from you here, KilledByAPixel, I know I'll be both delighted and impressed! Incredible work. It's so much fun to clear all the bushes with the boomerang.

Thank you. It feels really good to be able to share my work. Funny story, about 6 years ago I got a job offer from Nintendo to be a programmer but I turned them down. The reason is because they are very strict about not allowing people to working on any side projects. Like people who had videogame side projects before they started working there couldn't even maintain them. I understand them being protective but I think since then Nintendo has maybe loosened up the restrictions a bit.

You know, hitting the bushes with the boomerang was one of the very first things I made for this game and from the feel of that I could tell I had something. I'd like to work on it more. I thought about the game design and in a way it is kind of like a weird take on breakout, I want to explore that aspect of it.

Anyway, thanks for the kind words, it means a lot.
