Take Two need to fully apologize for the atrocious quality of the GTA remasters, take Grove Street Games off the project and hand the reins over to Rockstar North or San Diego. It's the only way I can see them salvaging any kind of customer goodwill they have left.

We have ongoing plans to address the technical issues and to improve each game going forward. With each planned update, the games will reach the level of quality that they deserve to be.

A new Title Update is on the way in the coming days for all versions of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition that will address a number of issues. We will update everyone as soon as it is live.

We will be adding the classic PC versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas back to the Rockstar Store shortly as a bundle. Additionally, everyone who has purchased Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for PC from the Rockstar Store through June 30, 2022, will receive these classic versions in their Rockstar Games Launcher library at no additional cost. We will update everyone as soon as these are back in the Rockstar Store.

On the one hand I haven’t been quite this glued to my PS4 in a while. On the other hand, it’s quite clear how many concessions were made as if there was incredibly limited resources given to this release, given the bizarre art direction and the amount of bugs in the game (get ready to fall through the map in certain places!)

What has really annoyed me is some of the online discussion blaming Grove Street Games when I feel the blame is entirely on Rockstar Games. These guys have worked with GSG staff before and they are aware of the quality they produce (I.e. mobile ports). It was entirely their decision to cheap out and not only get the same folks to do the console ports but also for all three games while fully knowing how beloved the three games are.

I’m glad that they have admitted as much even though it is corporate PR speak, but I wish they just gave the games enough time to be bug free instead of this mess.

It really depends on the level of control GSG had on the proceedings. A subcontractor in a situation with this much of a power discrepancy is often very very limited in their ability to push back on unreasonable deadlines, argue for an appropriate budget, etc. It's not likely we'll know exactly what the budget and timeline were for this project, but we can assume that with more time and/or money there would have been a better product.

That's pretty much it. Our company did contracting jobs (software development) to a medium sized organisation (at the time, there was two of us working on two different projects). From my own experiences I had absolutely little control in how our clients wanted things done - the best I could do was try and advise them from making bad decisions.

Off tangent personal experience about subcontractor woes One of the most strongest memory due to how much it annoyed me was I was doing this Android based project, and for one reason or the other our app needed access to the home screen. The only real Android way even with rooting the device was to call an API to ask the user which home screen to set. A staff member who worked for our client was a very big person in their IT organisation, so pretty much everyone accepted what he said was correct.

He absolutely refused to believe there was no way to set the home screen with root that was "simple". Sure, one could mangle the system setting xml files to try and set our home screen as the default, but it was incredibly fiddly and would require XML parsing and understanding of the file and then to write to it and then make sure the changes were flushed onto storage (we had devices that would "forget" due to the hacky way the device makers would allow users to turn off devices). This guy would always challenge me but would never give any concrete examples himself.

It was genuinely one of the most soul-crushing jobs I've ever taken. This didn't even go into the hairy bullshit office politics of it all.

Looks like the website is about as well-developed as the game. I just get a screen that says TypeError: Not enough arguments to Window.postMessage.
