It's cinematics like these that get people to pick up League of Legends, then they actually play a few games, expose themselves to the toxic degeneracy that is Draft Pick and Ranked Solo/Duo, then they uninstall - realising what a carcinogen the community really is.

And why am I not surprised? Riot Games is a company that is almost ethically as bad as Blizzard Entertainment, yet their fanboys will defend them to the hilt and give them a free pass for everything bad they do because they're still capable of making good games. Sexual harassment? Gender discrimination? Banning players from speaking up about Hong Kong? Mercilessly automating report systems to cut down on customer support costs? You name it, both Riot and Blizzard have done it.

The main difference between Riot and Blizz fanboys is that the latter have been burned so hard and so frequently by their once-favourite publisher that they've lost all hope that Blizzard can ever come back to their former glory.

League is like any other MOBA. It's a game best played with four like-minded friends, or if the technology to travel between timelines is ever discovered, four other versions of yourself from different parallel universes that have a liking for other roles.

The moment you introduce randoms into the mix, all sense of respect is thrown out the window.

I've been playing over the last few days, I've been called dogshit at least 20 times, had death from COVID-19 wished upon me 3 times, had numerous players intentionally feed and go 15+ deaths over the course of a roughly 20-something min game, and had one player call me the n-word (with a hard R too.) No matter how much you report such behaviour, Riot never bans it. In fact, I'm probably more likely to get the banhammer for actually calling these people out in chat and getting maliciously mass reported, thus triggering Riot's automated report flag.

EDIT: Fucking called it. 3 game chat restriction for calling one of these people a moron, while worse behaviour gets off scot free. I made sure to file a complaint via the ticket system. If I don't at least get a tonne of instant feedback notifications, I'm gonna send a collage of the appalling behaviour I've been victim to towards Riot.

I don't know, I picked up the game again recently and I'm having fun. I write "gl hf" in all chat at the start of the game and the enemy team will reply the same or something similar. When people are toxic I reported and I'll often get a screen that the report did something. In the time since I stopped playing they added ways to permanently disable the chat for people that don't want it. They also made it so if someone quits on your team you don't lose any LP (mostly a problem in smurf Q where people don't care about the game).

I only play solo Q so I'm always with 4 random and I find the experience to be pretty good. My honor level is going up pretty fast too so I guess people honor me. My advice would be to not respond to toxic people. Or if people do bad plays don't write to them teaching them how to play no one wants to be told how to play while in game.

I've also been liking the meta, new items and new champions. Every game feels winnable.

For the Riot stuff, they've recently accepted to pay $100 millions to victims which is quite a lot more than Blizz. It does seem like the company is changing internally from the reports.

I myself started a League community a few years ago which now has 13k members along with a Discord server and the conversations are rather positive. People share their achievements with each others and their good plays.

Edit: btw calling someone the n-word is an instant ban in League. Even with variations on the spelling. There are others too like "kys". Those are really easy reports.

Edit2: Code of Conduct (aka summoner code)

Can't really vouch for your experience, especially if you don't play on my server. I'm Iron 1 in Ranked on EU West, Honor Level 2 and it's like a perpetual never-ending elo hell of toxicity and childishness.

You try to climb then you have teammates intentionally feed and sabotage the match. The moment you pick something that isn't meta, ban a champ that a teammate wanted to play, or fall slightly behind, your team will do whatever is possible to deliberately sabotage the game. It's like European LoL players have some of the worst mental attitudes towards the game I've ever seen in any video game. I think LoL is only the third most toxic game I've played behind World of Warcraft and Dota 2.

Dota is a game I call Defense of the Assholes for a reason. I have bad memories of when I was kicked from an -apem game, added to a global blacklist and sent abusive PMs telling me to hang myself, all because I built Mekanism on Dragon Knight and tried to play him like a split pusher. This was back in the days of playing DotA Allstars on Battle.net.

A lot of the time when I play LoL I feel like my teammates are bigger opponents than the 5 enemies I face.

I've been tempted to create collages of all the abusive chat messages I've received in Ranked over the past week and just tweeting it straight at RiotGames and RiotSupport, ensuring to copy in as many LoL pros and influencers as possible. Because the prevalence of the issues just makes this unacceptable.

That lawsuit's been going on for a few years. Originally the settlement was paltry (even lower than what Blizz offered) and the California DFEH actually stepped back in. Also, pretty sure the CFO who was groping and farting on employees was given something like a two week paid suspension and compulsory workplace inclusivity training.

It's best not to call other people morons. Mute them and do not engage. This is from the code of conduct:

          • DO: Set the standard for what good looks like in League of Legends by exemplifying the values and expectations set forth here. Encourage others to do the same.
          • DO: Use language filters, mutes, and opt-out tools to protect yourself if communication channels become harmful. Then, report the behavior after the game to help protect the community.
          • DO: Step in to support other players who are being attacked in chat if it feels safe to do so and report the attackers after the game.

If you insult people back then you are part of the problem and you make the community worse. A three game chat restriction is deserved. Also don't ban your own teammate's champion. I have heard that EUW is more toxic than NA where I play but my friends tell me it's much better nowadays.

In general, I find that setting a positive tone for the game gives the best experiences. Saying "gl hf" in all chat when the game starts, writing "nice!", "gg", "wp" after your team gets a kill or an objective even when they are not around you. Using emotes when someone on your team walks by you. Spamming the champion dance at the start of the game when waiting to leash.

In iron you can ignore your team and climb to silver without having good game mechanics. Just focus on taking down towers with Demolish and Hullbreaker. You can pick champions like Tryndamere, Trundle, Yorick, Sion (Sion is especially good since you can pick him in any lane).

I mean... you're not wrong. Any kind of arguing is going to bring people down.

However, despite two wrongs obviously not making a right, acting like people have no right to be frustrated when their teammates display the level of play and respect towards their peers that you'd expect from bottom-of-the-barrel ranks in League is frankly unrealistic.

And when I used the term "ban a teammate's champ", I actively avoid doing this. Doesn't mean people on my team don't because they may just really, really hate playing against certain champions that are really frustrating to play against and don't want to risk giving the enemy first pick. And even if the enemy team bans the really popular high banrate champ, the teammate who wanted to play it will respond like a toddler throwing a tantrum.

For me reporting is like a placebo. I see toxic behaviour in almost every game and report it, yet I have received no instant feedback notifications from Riot Games whatsoever. For all I know Riot are throwing my reports in the trash.

I just had two more support matches end in unanimous losses. Game 1 I had both the ADC and mid laner flame me for my stats and support pick, call everybody r***rds, etc. The Yasuo top was also toxic-as-fuck yet spent nearly all of his time ineffectively split pushing like a wannabe Tryndamere instead of helping his team. Every single team fight we lost was because it was a 5v4. Some were even 5v3's because the Sejuani Jungle tank wasn't pulling their weight.

Game 2 was worse. I had the highest death count and was basically getting farmed by the enemy jungler and mid. This was because our jungler locked in Karthus, a really low mobility champion that can't gank and can only spam spells upon death. The enemy had a Vex mid and a Kayn jungle who snowballed so hard that every time I even encountered them, I got one-shotted in a display of Riot's 200 years of collective game design experience.

Fun fact, despite me playing Quinn Support and having the most deaths, I was third place on damage dealt to champions, had a vision score of 72 (over 30 above the enemy support), and had a much higher KDA ratio than our inting Irelia Top.

But yeah, Quinn Support lost those matches, apparently.

I play it because I like the champ, because her poke in-lane is surprisingly good, because she has the best mobility from level 6, can safely facecheck brush once every 30 - 50 seconds with her W and because if you give her Lethality or ADC items she can wreck face and snowball. But I am having the worst luck possible in placements with inter after inter after toxic player ruining my matches, while Riot couldn't give a shit.

Excuse the lengthy, borderline OT rant there. Sometimes I swear I should start a YouTube channel where I commentate and analyse these matches.

Quinn doesn't bring much CC or utility. What I'd do to climb would be to ward the enemy jungle to repeatedly kill them while they are clearing camps since they won't clear optimally. It's not likely that the enemy team will react to catch you in that elo. I think you'll almost always be weaker in 2v2 fights bot lane until you get items so you should be looking for roams as soon as another lane is overextended. With Quinn you can pretty much run around picking up kills. Try to cause a high tempo clown fiesta game. Go back bot lane when your ADC gets pushed in to get the kills when they get dove.

In iron and bronze it's all about capitalizing on the mistakes that people do and being better at closing games.

There's been quite a few lol expat on r/dota2 recently but I think it's more because of gameplay and balance issues, although they also mention Riot assholery.
